چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Designing multimedia learning environments should consist of the evidence-based study and principals about the human learning process. Eye tracking is a way based on the learner processing of learning materials which presented in multimedia learning environments. The aim of the study was to examine the use of the eye-tracking method to investigate the cognitive processes in multimedia learning Methods: This is a review study. The data collected from the Science Direct, Emerlan Databases, Ebsco, and Sage, in the year of 2000-2013. The keywords were multimedia learning, eye movements, visual attention, and visual tracking Findings: In this research, we examined using the eye-tracking method to understand the cognitive processes in multimedia learning. Some explanations about the eye tracking method, the used scales, the challenges of using this method, have been described in this article. The principles of the instructional design and the educational multimedia are discussed. Conclusion: The eye-tracking method provides a unique way for examining multimedia learning theories, especially the cognitive processing during learning. Applying this method to multimedia learning researchers in the future is worth wise.

Cognitive and affective processes in multimedia learning

This special section focuses on cognitive and affective processes in multimedia learning in a range of learning domains. Expanding previous research that has taken a predominantly cognitive perspective of multimedia learning, recent studies have begun to consider affective aspects of multimedia learning with the aim of integrating emotion, motivation, and other affective variables into cognitiv...

Underlying Processes of an Inverted Personalization Effect in Multimedia Learning – An Eye-Tracking Study

One of the frequently examined design principles in multimedia learning is the personalization principle. Based on empirical evidence this principle states that using personalized messages in multimedia learning is more beneficial than using formal language (e.g., using 'you' instead of 'the'). Although there is evidence that these slight changes in regard to the language style affect learning,...

Eye-tracking Applications in Multimedia Systems – Introduction

Introduction Monitoring eye movements offers insights into visual perception, attention mechanisms and cognitive processes. Interpretation of eye movement data can be based on the empirically validated assumption that when a person is performing a cognitive task, whilst watching a display, the location of his/her gaze corresponds to the symbol currently being processed in working memory and, mo...

Does prior knowledge reveal cognitive and metacognitive processes during learning with a hypermedia-learning system based on eye-tracking data?

Self-regulated learning (SRL) can be measured in different ways (e.g., eye-tracking) and can be impacted by individual differences (e.g., prior knowledge) as college students learn with MetaTutor, an intelligent hypermedia system. In this study (N = 30), we examined fixation and duration data on interface-related areas of interest (AOI)-pairs as indicators of cognitive and metacognitive SRL str...
